The Gordie Howe International Bridge finally opens between Detroit and Windsor after a period of unnecessary Trump-related drama and delays. Canada uninvites us from the formal ribbon-cutting ceremony and who can blame them. Still, I’m looking forward to my first crossing, especially on foot.
Irish musician Glen Hansard dies in a motorcycle accident, prompting a nearly universal outpouring of grief and tributes. I honestly had no idea the impact he’d had on so many in the global music community. I loved Once; that was my introduction to him. A few years after it came out, some friends asked my brother and me to sing "Falling Slowly" at their wedding.
July’s full moon, the buck moon, rises midweek. Despite setting myself a reminder, I accidentally sleep through it. The next morning my horoscope reads: Chin up, Aquarius! It is your moment for transformation. Through self-reflection and introspection, you’ll find the inspiration to evolve the personal habits you wish to elevate. TCB:
I study all week for the CLEP exam in hopes of testing out of the required Composition I class. If successful, I should be able to complete my degree next April.
Fulfilling a long-held intention, I build a DIY trash spear and begin trash picking around my neighborhood. It takes only 15 minutes to fill my first bag. The amount of trash is disheartening, but it’s better than doing nothing.
I finish Rebecca Solnit's Men Explain Things To Me and Robyn Hitchcock's Stranded in the Future, then begin reading Caroline Criado Perez's Invisible Women and Mike Campbell’s Heartbreaker: A Memoir.
Jack and I meet up for Taco Fest at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds. We drink Modelos, eat tacos, listen to a regional Mexican group from Pontiac, and watch the Pro Wrestling All Stars of Detroit.
